Controlling Flying Pests

Outdoor pest control is often an issue for those who like to entertain. Thankfully, there are many options to help control annoying pests. Electric Devices: Of the many pest control devices that are commonly available, electric bug "zappers" are perhaps the most popular. There is a reason for that: they work. These devices can be purchased in many retail outlets as well as online. They come in wide range of prices as well as styles.

The most common types of bug zapper are those that hang from an overhead support. These can be small so as to be less noticeable or they can be large, depending on the model. As the name implies, they do require the use of electricity, so they must be placed where the cord can reach an outlet.

If you own a garden, keep in mind that there are some insects that are beneficial to your garden. A bug zapper will kill these as well which may not be your intention. The light that is used in these devices attracts bugs, both good ones and bad ones.

Do keep in mind, however, that the odor can be quite strong and may annoy your guests. It is always best to light these products in advance of the party time. Some of your guests may be sensitive to citronella products.

Fly Strips: For many years now people have been using fly strips. These strips have a sticky coating that actually attracts flying insects. When they insect lands on the strip, they stick to it and die. It is always best to put these strips out early and to put them in a place where they will not be easily noticed. As more bugs are stuck to them, they can become unattractive to some people.

Bug Sprayers: If you have a big insect problem, you may want to use an electronic bug sprayer. These devices send out a mist of pesticide at predetermined times. You should spray the poison around your deck and patio well in advance of your gathering so as to allow the scent to dissipate and the chemical to work before your guest arrive.

Bottle Sprays: The least expensive means of reducing insects is to use a home-insect repellent or killer that comes in a spray bottle. This is not always the most effective way to control flying insects but it can help reduce them. You simple spray the chemical around your deck or patio in advance of your party.
