Products and Services

  • Yard MaintenanceServices: Consultation Our initial meeting to analyze the site and determine your goals, taste and preferences for the project. Soil tests are conducted, site measurements are recorded, and all existing features on the property are recognized. The initial consultation is important because it provides us with some time to get together, share ideas, and get to know each other. It also allows us to determine the scope of the project. Scope is critical because it reveals project length, complexity and potential costs. Do not hesitate to ask us questions regarding any part of the project. We are very up-front and want you to have a high comfort level with us and the project at all times. Our second meeting involves the presentation of the design and estimate. There will be a five hundred dollar design fee at this point, but it will be credited back to you upon installation of the project. During the review of the design and estimate, we will take note of any changes or revisions that need to be made. We can usually take care of these at the studio the same day and email you an updated estimate within 24 hours. Once the updates have been reviewed and approved, we will send out a contract reflecting the approved estimate. After we receive a signed copy of the contract with the down payment, we will put you down in the books for the first spot available. If it's just the consultation you're after, there is the option of having one of our designers come out and provide you with what we call our “Thumb-Nail Sketch” package. We will walk the site with you and listen to your particular want and needs for the project. Then we will integrate our creative ideas into the mix and draw you a free-hand sketch for your new landscape. You will be able to take the sketch, plant list included, and do it yourself. The fee for this service is $250.
  • Landscape DesignerDesign A multi-phased planning sequence that leads to the final AutoCAD drawing of your new landscape. Ideas will be generated from the initial meeting, and revisions can be made any time throughout this process. A cost estimate will be made following the final revision. Once the estimate is approved, the installation date can be assigned. Beds & Borders Landscape Design, Inc. begins the design process by determining your goals, tastes and preferences. We then move outside where we take site measurements, a soil analysis, and notations of all existing features. We will evaluate all aspects of the landscape including microclimates (where hot, cold, wet and dry climates exist). This will allow us to choose the exact plant material suitable for that particular area. Additionally, circulation patterns are recognized, while drainage and easements are taken into consideration. Equally important are views from and inside the house. By using the sight-lines from inside the house we will be able to focus on the most intriguing and beautiful characteristics important to the property. Synthesizing all the information we gather from the site analysis enables us to form the backbone of your new landscape design.
  • Landscape ArchitectInstallation Projects are always completed efficiently and in a timely manner. Larger projects will take some time to complete, but our goal is minimal distruption and a clean worksite during the construction phase. You can be assured that every worker we employ is courteous, reliable and highly skilled. The installation process begins after the design is finalized. Many clients strive to finalize the design work over the winter, if not the preceding fall, in order to beat the spring rush. As soon as it warms up enough to melt the underground frost, we begin implementing the plans according to the previously decided job calendar. Our typical job takes about a week, depending on the complexity. With two reasonable-sized crews working 10-hour days, we can complete a lot of work in a short amount of time. We keep our quality high by keeping our crew size manageable, and we always give personal service with high-quality work. The lead designer will oversee the entire project. Their primary responsibility is to be on site at the beginning and end of each phase of the project. We work closely with all of our clients throughout the entire process, and it is our ultimate goal to ensure that no detail is overlooked. Our foreman and crew are personable, approachable, and will answer any questions that you might have as work proceeds. Every member of the crew is well trained to run all of our machines and equipment so there will be no damage to your property or your neighbor’s property. When the job is complete, the crew will clean up the site to make sure it is cleaner than when we arrived. The designer will then take a final walk-through with you to discuss how to care of your new landscape. And you will see us around monitoring your landscape the rest of the year, as well as the following year, checking to see how everything survived the winter. If your landscape requires a replacement, it will be planted no later than Memorial Day week. Not only do we guarantee our plants, but we also guarantee our commitment to making our customers completely satisfied with their new landscape.
  • Yard MaintenanceMaintenance While every project is different, most require some maintainance in order to keep the plants looking their best. We will help you design a do-it-yourself plan, or you can use our own maintenance services. Just ask for an estimate. Low maintenance landscapes are a common request. Unfortunately “low” does not mean “no” (as in zero) landscape! Every landscape requires some sort of work to keep it looking its best. If you are the type who does not want to deal with landscaping on a regular basis during the summer, then a maintenance plan might be the right thing for you. Here at Beds and Borders we can provide you with an opportunity to have us keep an eye on your landscape throughout the growing season. One of our designers can talk to you about the labor requirements that your particular plan might need, which very likely will be much more reasonable than you thought. Many of our current clients love to come home after work to see their beautiful landscape looking tidy and well-maintained, without having to invest their summer evenings or weekends with this effort. It might be the right thing for you!

Testimonials

Testimonials: "I'd worked with a couple of different landscaping companies, but wasn't satisfied with any of them. Beds & Borders came in at the end of the season with the perfect plan and implemented it within a week or so. Andy, Mike, Chris and their team were extremely professional, clean, knowledgeable, collaborative, flexible and fun to work with – and all for a great price. Thank you!" Julie Nelson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found your invoice tonight when I was getting my mail. That delivery worked out well! A special thank you for the beautiful Magnolia tree. Just what I wanted. Thank you also very much for the small charge. I was surprised, and (of course) delighted. You did me such a favor to find a tree, very healthy, at a low price, and lower on the labor than expected. Thank you very much! Margery -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am really enjoying admiring the plantings and "getting to know" my new garden. I love it! Thanks again for the beautiful job you did! Thank You. Georgia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for a great project! Wendell -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks great out in back (-: Jackie -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for the wonderful job you did on our landscape. It is perfect. You were a dream to work with, and we couldn't have asked for better service. What a change from the norm! Thank you! Thank You! We will be sure to pass your name on to others. Chris -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The place looks great! I couldn't be happier with the job you did. We were just discussing last night what a pleasure it was to work with you and how professional and creative your product is. Nice job! Shaun -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just had to stop a minute to thank you for turning our yard into a beautiful garden. I was out working in the yard and looked up and really took in how gorgeous everything was. I have the most beautiful perennial bed ever and I love the fact that you put in more Oriental Poppy and Butterfly Bush. Two of my favorites! The yellow Iris are in bloom and are elegant as ever. I love the white fringed tulips that came up...you guys are awesome and I feel lucky that we found you and were able to have done the amount of things we have done. Some people like the expensive furniture or jewelry or art...not me...I would take this gorgeous yard over any of that any day. The other thing I love about the yard is how you designed it. You know how some yards you drive by are so manicured and clean with clean cut lines and the same type of trees and plants and sharp corners...it's almost painful to look at and so sterile looking. You brought in a lot of variety and colors and everything flows nicely. You guys did a kick butt job! It was a perfect day to walk around and look at it all. I could smell the lilac and some other fragrances because of the breezes and humidity. Good Stuff! Thanks Again! Tunia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Thank you for your hard work in weeding/mulching out backyard! You did a great job and were nice to work with. I will definitely keep you in mind for other jobs of our own or others we know." Katrina & Jon -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It looks great! Thanks again for everything!" Bob -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Wow, do those blue stone paths look good. I got home too late to see anything in the daylight, but it sure looked good by flashlight! Mel and I are both thrilled with how things are shaping up. The project looks fabulous." Scott -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I just wanted to let you know that the front of my house looks BEAUTIFUL right now. Almost everything is blooming. I'm so happy with it." Jenny -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Thanks again for the great work!" Liv -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It looks great! I love the plants—but you have to go over what they are with me again. I love the Dr. Seuss evergreen on the side of the house. We've always wanted one of those. And what is the big red one in the middle? It's perfect. There are a million birds in the trees—mostly cardinals—so they must be loving it too." Jo Ann -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Thanks again for a great job! We love it!" Tanya -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our yard is awesome...thanks to you! It's been an absolute pleasure working with you! I love all the pretty plants and trees you chose!!!! Ann -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our new landscaping is fabulous! Andy interpreted exactly what we wanted and took it to the next level… on budget and on time. The design is creative and fits our home perfectly. We couldn’t recommend Beds and Borders more highly. Martha Webb and Bruce Clark Information: “Green” Design From chemicals to climate change, the environment is one of the most important issues we face today. At Beds & Borders, we believe in natural, eco-friendly landscaping that enriches and improves the environment. That’s why we offer the added benefit of “green” design. Many homeowners don’t realize that smart, eco-friendly choices in landscaping not only create a beautiful landscape, but also help reduce their carbon footprint, counteract harmful transportation emissions, curb erosion, reduce the negative effects of non-indigenous plants and pests, and keep chemicals out of their children’s drinking water. For example, consider the benefits of these green practices: Native Sugar Maple: When planted between your house and a southern sun, this native tree helps protect your home from direct summer sunlight. In winter, the absence of leaves allows the lower winter sun to warm the house. Native Groundcovers: Ginger, Solomon's Seal, Thalictrum, Fern, Bunchberry and Blueberry are beautiful plants, but they also provide an important habitat for Minnesota's natural fauna and insect populations while controlling harmful erosion. Native Shrubs: Serviceberry, Dogwood, Hazelnut and Willow offer a critical habitat for birds while providing excellent ground stabilization. Native Hardscapes: Dolomite limestone and dozens of granites and trap from northern Minnesota, Fond du Lac and Chilton, Wisconsin, provide excellent surfaces that don’t have to be transported long distances and using up precious fossil fuels. Rain Garden: Funneling rainwater to a low spot in your yard helps prevent erosion so Mother Nature can recharge her reserves. Rain Barrels: Harnessing and storing natural rainwater is better for your plants and leaves less environmental and economic impact. Raised Bed Garden: A raised bed can help overcome soil drainage, compaction problems or weed issues. It also provides specialized growing conditions for specific plants and keeps rabbits out of your garden. Mulch: We offer pine bark mulch made from Minnesota’s very own state tree, the Norway Pine. Compost: Why import compost from hundreds of miles away when you can achieve excellent quality straight from a Minnesota farm? Weed Control: We recommend newspaper as an environmentally-friendly weed barrier and use a non-toxic, vinegar-based weed control as a substitute for Round-up. * As part of our commitment to the environment, Beds & Borders uses recycled paper and office supplies, including recycling batteries and ink cartridges.
